Task states and safe recovery

Understand pauses, approvals, failed actions and when to continue instead of starting over.

  1. 1Read the current status
  2. 2Inspect the last confirmed action
  3. 3Resolve the stated cause
  4. 4Continue or retry once
  5. 5Check the result

What the status means

StateMeaningNext action
QueuedWaiting to start or for an available execution slotWait; do not submit the same task repeatedly
RunningWork is in progressFollow the work log; approve only actions you understand
Waiting for approval or inputThe task needs a decision or missing informationReview and answer the specific request
Paused / ContinueWork has stopped at a resumable pointRead the reason and saved progress, then continue if appropriate
CompletedThe run endedVerify the actual output, not just the status label
FailedWork could not finish successfullyInspect the error and confirmed actions before retrying
StoppedExecution was stoppedReview completed side effects before starting another run

“No result saved” or execution not confirmed

An intended tool call is not proof that it executed. If the log has no confirmed result, inspect the destination before repeating an external action. For example, check whether a message was sent or a document was created. A retry must not blindly duplicate a payment, publication or deletion.

A final message naming a file is also not proof that the file was saved. Check the result attachment and try downloading it. If absent, ask the assistant to verify and save the existing output rather than redoing the entire task immediately.

Limits and interruptions

ProblemSafe response
Provider quota or rate limitCheck the provider account; wait for the indicated retry time
Provider unavailable or stream interruptedReopen the run, check saved progress and retry when the provider recovers
Context limitReview the task state and choose a suitable model/context setting
Task budget, time or step limitInspect the stated limit and task settings; do not confuse it with an empty credit balance
Workspace save failedPreserve accessible results and contact support if repeated
Permission or subscription changedResolve the access or plan issue before retrying
Browser session expiredReopen the preview and confirm the page state before interacting

Long tasks may condense earlier context. Keep essential deliverables and constraints in the request and persistent working files. Large tool results may be shown as a short excerpt with a reference to fuller content. Neither behavior guarantees that the model will remember every detail perfectly.

Network connection lost

A browser disconnect is not the same as stopping the task. Reopen the chat or job details first. Use Stop when you intend to stop work. Avoid a second submission until you know whether the original is still running.

Report a recurring problem

Include the time, chat/job reference, selected model, visible error and the last confirmed step. Do not include keys, passwords or confidential documents in a public support message.
